Our Board and Affiliations
The Human Development Foundation’s (HDF) Board of Directors serve a 2 year renewable term, and 100 % of HDF Board Members make a financial contribution.
Lou Anne Kellman, J.D. – HDF Chairman of the Board
Vice President: Joseph Kellman Family Foundation, Former Assistant Public Defender: Public Defender’s Office of Cook County, Juvenile Division
Mrs. Kellman is currently the Vice President of the Joseph Kellman Family Foundation. She recently relocated to San Diego from Chicago, where as an Assistant Public Defender she tried cases and represented clients in the Abuse and Neglect Division and juvenile clients in the Delinquency Division. An active community member, Mrs. Kellman has sat on the board of several charitable organizations including The Better Boys Foundation, Child Abuse Prevention Service, and The National Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse Women’s Board.
Alan Sorkin – HDF Vice Chair

Alan Sorkin, Social Venture Partner International Volunteer of the Year, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) Volunteer of the Year, San Diego Channel 10 Individual of the Year, has 30 years of for-profit and non-profit business expertise. Retiring from a career as an entrepreneur, CEO and founder of six companies, Mr. Sorkin volunteers almost all his time in the community, focusing on children and educational issues. He has written two books, What Parents Must Know and Can Do About Teenage Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and CustomerMaker; More Customers, Loyal Employees & Higher Profits.
Marjorie Fox – HDF President/CEO
Board Member: San Diego Social Venture Partners (SDSVP), Founder: ARDON, A Resource Development & Organizational Network
Ms. Fox has been HDF’s President and CEO since its inception in 1997. Prior to joining HDF, she implemented extensive media campaigns corresponding with Congressional lobbying efforts after the massacre in Tiananmen Square. She also coordinated the first US media tours for escaped dissidents and Tiananmen Square student leaders. At the United Nations, in preparation for the “Earth Summit,” Ms. Fox coordinated media campaigns that leveraged NGO participation and lobbying efforts with UN Delegates. Additionally, she founded ARDON, an online service that facilitates the exchange resources for nonprofits. Ms. Fox was a TV talk show host and associate producer on the FOX network affiliate in San Diego. She has served on a variety of boards and committees for organizations concerned with human rights, the environment and early childhood development. Currently, Ms. Fox represents the nonprofit community as a member of San Diego Social Venture Partners Board of Directors.
Kyle Kaechele – HDF Secretary
Director of Sales and Marketing: TargetSafety.com, Inc.
Mr. Kaechele currently works as the Director of Sales and Marketing for TargetSafety, a private California corporation providing online, turnkey solutions to public entities and organizations that seek to reduce insurance claims and losses. As one of the original four members of the start-up in 1999, Mr. Kaechele's responsibilities have involved developing strategic partnerships, training and driving the sales team, and developing the sales process, annual goals and quotas. Prior to joining TargetSafety, Mr. Kaechele worked on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange trading commodities, futures and options for a major brokerage firm. Mr. Kaechele is an active member of the Lincoln Club of San Diego, sitting on both the Legislative and Political Action Committees. He also chairs a campaign for a California State Senator.
Greg Elias, CPA – HDF Treasurer
Partner: Tax Projects Group, LLP
Mr. Elias is a Partner with The Tax Projects Group. He has over 17 years of experience in accounting, tax and business consulting primarily with Deloitte & Touche and KPMG Peat Marwick. He was responsible for assisting both public and private clients with a variety of value-added accounting, tax and business consulting strategies. Mr. Elias is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California and holds a B.S. in accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Morgan P. Appel,
Director of Education, UC San Diego Extension
Morgan P. Appel serves as Director of the Education Department at UC San Diego Extension. Prior to assuming this role, he served as Director of Education for UC Irvine Extension and as a research specialist at UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Appel is widely published and specializes in the development, implementation and assessment of integrated and holistic solutions for underperforming and underserved schools. He sits on the board of the Association of San Diego Educators of the Gifted (ASDEG) and has participated in the review of GATE plans for the California Department of Education.
Lynn Allen-Biros – HDF Director
Community Affairs Manager: Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Lynn Allen-Biros is the Community Affairs Manager for Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and has been employed at Amylin since 2000. Amylin community support focuses on diabetes and obesity awareness, educational initiatives that support students interested in careers in life sciences, and events that promote a healthy lifestyle. She has her BS from Eastern Illinois University, has attained her Certificate in Corporate Community Involvement from Boston College Center of Corporate Citizenship and is a graduate of LEAD San Diego Class of 2007. She is an active supporter of the UCSD Preuss School where she is a mentor.
Robert Bingham - HDF Director
CEO Unity08, GeekLabs, Partner: San Diego Social Venture Partners
Robert Bingham is the CEO of Unity08, a new citizen-led movement to elect a bi-partisan ticket in the 2008 presidential election in order to put an end to divisive politics and special interest influence. Mr. Bingham is the archetypical serial entrepreneur. He started his crusade at San Diego State University where he fought his way through layers of bureaucracy to create innovative marketing strategies to promote then Heisman candidate Marshall Faulk. This later led to the founding of a sports publishing startup called Spectator Sports Communications. After a near death experience with Spectator, Mr. Bingham founded SimpleNet, a company with a simple model; host web sites for other people. He later sold SimpleNet to broadcast.com that was later sold to Yahoo! He serves as an angel investor and board member to fledgling startups in San Diego.
Lauren K DiGeronimo - HDF Director
Senior Account Executive: Nuffer, Smith, Tucker
Lauren K. DiGeronimo has more than nine years of event planning, brand development, publicity, and marketing communications experience. Prior to working at NST, Lauren worked at Middleton & Gendron Public Relations in New York and at Ruder Finn Public Relations in Washington, DC. Lauren is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and psychology. Lauren has also recently worked with Project Concern International, a nonprofit organization that improves the lives of children and families around the world.
Gloria Garrett, Ph.D. – HDF Director
Executor: Constance Owsley Garrett Family Trust, Partner: San Diego Social Venture Partners
For the last 19 years, Ms. Garrett has managed the investments and philanthropic interests of the Constance Owsley Garrett Family Trust. In 2004, she became the sponsor of World Link with the University of San Diego’s Institute for Peace and Justice, empowering youth to take their place in world affairs. As a board member for the Foundation For Women, she represented FFW in Jordan at the Middle East Regional Microcredit Summit. She also worked with politicians to build the political will to reach the UN Millennium Development Goals and served as a consultant and sponsor for the pilot program, Microfinance for Youth, in KwaZuluNatal, South Africa. As a member of the Jonas Salk Foundation, her collaborations with leaders in science, disaster management and business led to the development of the Disaster Knowledge Management System. Ms. Garrett holds an MBA in Finance and a PhD in Energy Science.
Michael Kole, Ph.D. – HDF Director
Retired Professor: University of New Hampshire, Rider University
Dr. Kole holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and Information Systems from the University of Massachusetts. As a professor at both the University of New Hampshire and Rider University in New Jersey, he authored three books, a manual and several publications. He has provided financial consulting and a broad range of seminars for dozens of organizations. Dr. Kole has also committed a great deal of his time to improving life in local and state communities. He is a founding member of Save Our Shores, a New Hampshire environmental group, and he received four consecutive grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities on the impacts of economic growth in New Hampshire. In 2003, Mr. Kole relocated to San Diego, where his community service continues. He has served as treasurer and a member of the Board of San Diego Social Venture Partners, as a member of the Board for both the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo and the Canyons Campaign.
Josh Komenda – HDF Director
Senior Engineer: QUALCOMM Inc.
Josh brings 8 years of engineering and leadership experience as a Senior Engineer in QUALCOMM’s CDMA Technologies Group. Josh leads major mobile phone features through their complete life cycles from market opportunity identification to commercialization, and actively works with Engineers, Mobile Phone Carriers, and Handset Manufacturers from North America to South-East Asia. In addition, he serves on the University of Waterloo’s Strategic Alumni Council and the Executive Policy and Planning committee which advocates for alumni issues and provides strategic guidance to the University President and Senate. Prior to joining QUALCOMM, Josh has worked for other Fortune 500 companies and small start-ups in Canada and the United States in Telecom, Medical Devices, and IT Consulting. He graduated from the University of Waterloo in Canada with a BS (Hon) in Computer Engineering and an Option in Management Sciences.
Priya Reddy, J.D. – HDF Director
Attorney: Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP
Ms. Reddy has been practicing Real Estate and Corporate law since earning her law degree from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, in 2000. She is a member of the California and British Columbia Bar and the Canadian Bar Association, and has worked with several prominent law firms in Canada and California. She currently practices Real Estate Law at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves and Savitch LLP, where she handles the drafting of purchase and sale agreements, commercial and ground leases, and assists in all phases of large commercial/industrial/retail/residential developments including land acquisition, financing, subdivision and leasing.
Roger Roux – HDF Director
CFO: Children’s Hospital and Health Center, San Diego
Mr. Roux has over 30 years of healthcare financial management experience, with 20 years in chief financial officer roles. Since 2003, Mr. Roux has been responsible for all aspects of financial management of Children’s Hospital and Health Center, where he has contributed to the significant financial improvement of the organization. Prior to joining children’s, Mr. Roux held a variety of healthcare finance leadership positions in hospitals and other healthcare organizations.
David Zeiger, R.Ph. – HDF Director
President & CEO: Priority Pharmacy
Mr. Zeiger has over 25 years of experience in executive leadership in the pharmaceutical industry. Since 1979 he has been President and CEO of Priority Pharmacy, a disease state management mail order pharmacy, where he has led the company’s growth from a local supplier to a leading nationwide resource. Prior to joining Priority Pharmacy, he was President and CEO of Priority Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Zeiger received his BS in Pharmacy from the University of Arizona and completed the Harvard Graduate School of Business OPM (Owners’ Pres Management) Program. He is an active member in the community and has served various non-profit boards.
